Towslee wins Pro Stock Invitational at Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Scott Towslee, the 16-year-old second generation driver from Vermont who finished fourth in points in the pro stock division at Albany-Saratoga Speedway during the 2019 regular season, reached another milestone in his career on Saturday, Nov. 2, when he won the 15-lap Pro Stock Invitational on the first weekend of the DIRTcar World Championships at The Dirt Track in Charlotte, N.C.
Towslee, who won three features at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in 2019, was involved in a melee during the 30-lap Pro Stock Championship feature and did heavy damage to his car after hitting the backstretch wall. But with the help of crews from the Luke Horning and Jason Morrison teams, worked for over three hours to get his car race-ready, and then went out and won the 15-lap Invitational for his first DIRTcar Pro Stock Series victory.
Towslee, following in the footsteps of his father Chuck, is in his second season in the pro stock division. Horning, who won the Pro Stock Classic (which paid $5,000 to win), as well as the DIRTcar Pro Stock series race in September at Malta, took the checkered flag in the 25-lap Pro Stock Championship on Saturday afternoon at Charlotte, earning $3,000.
“We spent a lot of money to come down here, so to get this win helps make it possible,” Horning told DIRTcar public relations officials after the race.
Former Albany-Saratoga Speedway pro stock champion Kenny Martin, who now lives in North Carolina, was fifth in the Pro Stock Championship, with Jason Meltz sixth, Dave DePaulo 17th and Towslee 19th after his crash.
Robert Bublak Jr., who suffered through a frustrating sportsman season at Albany-Saratoga, debuted a new DKM chassis at Charlotte and drove it to a second-place finish in the 25-lap Sportsman Championship on Saturday.
Other Albany-Saratoga regulars who made the trip South to compete in the Sportsman Championship were Darryl Nutting, who came from a 17th starting position to finish fourth, Andrew Buff (sixth), Derrick McGrew Jr. (14th) and Jack Speshock (15th).
Four of those drivers also competed in the Sportsman Invitational. McGrew Jr. came across the finish line third, with Buff 12th, Nutting 15th and Speshock 16th.
