MALTA, NY – One of New York State’s premier dirt tracks – Albany-Saratoga Speedway – will join the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP.
Albany-Saratoga owner Howard Commander and promoter Lyle DeVore have reached an agreement with STSS organizer Brett Deyo to bring the series to the Malta, N.Y., oval for the first time in 2017.
The inaugural STSS visit takes place on Tuesday, August 15, a 52-lap event offering a minimum of $5,000 to the winner, $1,000 for 10th-place and $400 to take the green flag. Those numbers, of course, could grow with marketing partners and bonuses attained.
“We are always looking to offer something unique and different for our fans,” DeVore said. “I’ve been watching the Short Track Super Series since it started and like the diversity of the fields. We’re hoping to bring in some Pennsylvania and New Jersey teams from the south to race with our locals.
“The plan is to make this something special, something different than we have ever offered before.”
Deyo stressed his enthusiasm for the new event at the ‘Great Race Place’ four-tenths-mile venue.
“There is no question, Albany-Saratoga is a leader in the industry right now,” he said. “It’s ‘the place’ to be on Friday nights. The crowds, the field, surface and facility are second-to-none. This is a huge positive for our series, racers and sponsors.
“I’d expect one of our most talented fields of the season on hand for this show.”
Unique for the Capital Region, STSS standard sail panels will be utilized on the Modifieds in addition to American Racer tires. Provisions will be made to aid local teams looking to compete in the event.
Sportsman, under local rules, will serve as the support division.
A rain date will be announced if needed.
The Albany-Saratoga program will be part of the series’ North Region, which is slated to begin and end at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y. Joining the traditional April ‘Hard Clay Open’ is a recently announced finale during Eastern States Weekend in October.
A complete STSS ‘17 schedule will be released at the series Awards Banquet this Friday (December 16) in Bethlehem, Pa.
Marketing partners looking to join this first-time event are welcome to contact the STSS office by phone at 845.728.2781 or via e-mail at bdmotorsportsmedia@gmail.com.
The Short Track Super Series completed its third season, with Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., topping the North Region point battle and Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., winning the South Region championship.
