Tremont is hot at Albany-Saratoga

MALTA, NY - Ken Tremont Jr. wasn't going to let a two-hour rain delay spoil what has been a great season.

After sitting around for some two hours while track crews worked to reclaim a racing surface obliterated by a rain storm, Tremont went back to work and picked up his second win of the season Friday night in the 35-lap 358 modified feature at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

In the month of June, Tremont, the defending track champion, has two seconds and a first. He's also finished in the top five in every 358-modified feature this season, with his worst finish a fifth, on May 29.

Vince Quenneville Jr. came off the pole and led the first 15 laps, but Mike Perrotte, hungry for a victory, moved out in front on lap 16.

Tremont, who had started 16th, moved into the top five on the same lap on which Perrotte took the lead, and started picking off the leaders, overtaking Jeff Trombley for second on lap 22. Tremont then reeled in Perrotte, put the No. 115 into the top spot on lap 27 and easily came away with his 50th career victory at Albany-Saratoga.

Perrotte hit the finish line second, his best run of the year and his first-runner-up finish since April 25, 2008. Trombley, John Proctor and Dave Camara completed the top five.

Brett Hearn, looking for his third straight win, was an early victim, dropping out after just 10 laps after damaging his car in a tangle with Ronnie Johnson.

Fred Proctor picked up his first win of the season in the 25-lap budget sportsman feature, which was also a DIRTcar points race. Proctor started on the outside pole and only needed six laps to overtake early leader Chris Thorpe.

Frank Hoard III was strapped into a rocketship and was all over the rear end of Proctor's car for the final five laps, but Proctor never bobbled, and went under the checkered flag a car-length ahead of Hoard. Pete Carlotto, Anthony Marro and D.J. Brundige completed the top five.

Cale Kneer charged past Lori Langevin on the final lap to come away with his second win of the year in the 25-lap pro-street stock feature.

Walt Brownell and Langevin battled for the lead right from the drop of the green flag, with Brownell leading the first 20 laps. But Langevin, still looking for her first win of the season, made her move with five to go, and took over the top spot.

Kneer, who had been running third since lap 12, got around Brownell for second on lap 22, and then made the last-lap pass to get the win.

The CRSA Sprints were an added attraction to the Friday night racing card at Albany-Saratoga, with John Matrafailo going flag-to-flag to get his first win of the season in the CRSA. Jeremy Quick was second, followed by John Cunningham, Tyler Rice and Chad King.

Travis Tromans kept his winning streak intact in the mini stock class, driving to his third six-cylinder win of the season. The limited feature wasn't run because of the track curfew, and will be run as the first event on the June 26 racing card.

Albany-Saratoga Speedway will present Hall of Fame Night on June 26, with the Empire Lightning Sprints being added to the regular CVRA divisions. Racing will begin at 6:45 p.m.
