Johnson, Wright & Yetman Lead The Way In Albany-Saratoga Practice
Malta, NY – On a bright and sunny day the Albany-Saratoga Speedway opened the gates for the first time in 2014. On tap was an open practice session for anyone who wanted to take advantage of the season opening opportunity.
Over 90 drivers and cars representing nine divisions of racing took part in the afternoon test session. In addition to practice time, each race car had to go through technical inspection. The inspection process was mandatory before they could hit the track.
The Sportsman division led the way with about 23 entries while the newly named Limited Sportsman division had about ten entries. In seasons past the Limited Sportsman division was known as the Novice Sportsman division. Brett Wright turned the fastest time of the afternoon amongst the Sportsman competitors; the teenager from Chatham, New York circled the four tenths of a mile oval in 16.643 seconds. His J&D Waste Equipment/Brookside Equipment Sales/S&S Poultry Farm, Teo Pro Car looked smooth all afternoon.
The DIRTcar Modified division would see 14 drivers take advantage of the afternoon’s track time. Marc Johnson, of Guilderland, New York, would post the fastest time during the numerous on-track sessions. Johnson’s plain white, Quality of Life/Andy’s Speed number 3J turned a quick lap of 15.888 seconds.
In the Pro Stock ranks Rob Yetman would post quick time amongst the 14 entries. Yetman circled the track in 18.944 seconds with his Lazzaro’s Auto Body/Boomer’s Performance/Herrington Farms number 7.
The Street Stock and Four Cylinder divisions would check in with about 20 total cars. There was also a good turnout of drivers from the Empire Lightning Sprint group as well as representation from the 360 Sprint Car and RaceSaver 305 Sprint Car divisions.
