HOME TRACK REGULARS UP FOR BIG SHOW CHALLENGE
Albany-Saratoga Has Some Talent Ready To Give The Tour Drivers A Thrilling Race
June 26, 2015 By Rob Hazer (Vernon, NJ) – Few tracks can boast their weekly competitors are among some of the very best dirt track racing wheelmen in the business today. Modified drivers who cannot only defend home turf, but travel well while being competitive at various speedways in the Northeast. The great race place Albany-Saratoga Speedway can claim just such a thing and the regulars are ready to make the high profile tour regulars work hard during Big Show VII.
Brett Hearn is the all-time winningest driver at Albany-Saratoga Speedway and hands down the toughest challenge presented to touring drivers come July 7th. Hearn along with Peter Britten, Keith Flach, and Rich Scagliotta all call Malta home during the season on Friday nights while also following the Super DIRTcar Series.
While they each present a challenge to invaders trying to take home a Big Show championship, there are some un-scouted drivers who represent the non-traveling, hard-nosed, stubborn element making the Malta, NY speed plant difficult to walk in and win. It starts with a proven talent like Kenny Tremont Jr.
Kenny Tremont earned the nickname ‘king of the valley’ after climbing to the top of the all-time win list on the high banks. Tremont puts his talent on display at Albany-Saratoga each Friday night, which has been his home for many years. Tremont leads the charge each week to out run the highflying ‘Jersey Jet’ Brett Hearn to the checkered flag. Tremont has a hall of fame career himself, which includes many wins, championships, and a Big Block Super Dirt Week triumph back in 1999.
Tremont is just part of what fans will be treated to during Big Show VII. Dubbed the ‘ultimate underdog’ Marc Johnson is as tough as they come at the great race place. Each week Marc Johnson puts his familiar 3J in the top 10 with a mildly funded team in comparison. The kid has talent that challenges the hall of fame drivers each week, which is why Johnson has learned to race hard. MJ has feature wins to his credit, solid runs at the Moody Mile, and is mild mannered to complete the package.
Johnson is a name synonymous with success. Ronnie Johnson had a legendary father to guide him to the champion he has become today. RJ stormed through the Sportsman ranks into the Modifieds to begin his chase for a title, which he finally accomplished in 2011 at Fonda. He continues the family tradition of winning at his Friday night home track Albany-Saratoga. Johnson is a fan favorite whom will defend home turf contending for a Big Show championship July 7th.
Mark Kislowski, once a Modified newcomer, has elevated to Big Block veteran. Kislowski is on a hot streak of top finishes including a feature win at Fonda Speedway. The sheer determination to not only compete with the best drivers on the planet, but to beat them is what makes Kislowski a dark horse long shot to win Big Show VII. He’s currently 6th in points just ahead of another driver turned promoter, Matt DeLorenzo.
Matt DeLorenzo has won his fair share of feature events at Albany-Saratoga and claimed the 2007 Modified track title at Fonda Speedway. DeLorenzo spends much of his time these days as the track of champions revered promoter, but at any moment he’s ready to rock-n-ride to victory lane. As an outside fan favorite to claim victory, Matty ‘D’ will clash with some heavy hitters at Big Show VII.
Jimmy Cottrell, Elmo Reckner, and the racing Ronca Family will join the rest of Albany-Saratoga’s best in a wheel-to-wheel showdown with arguably the best traveling group of Big Block Modified talent in an epic Big Show VII, which will include the ‘Herminator’ himself, Kenny Wallace.
Big Show VII is scheduled for July 7, 2015 as part of the 50th anniversary of the great race place. NASCAR personality Kenny Wallace will be on hand going toe-to-toe with icons of the Super DIRTcar Series in what promoter Brett Hearn promises to be the best Big Show yet. Mark down the date, take a vacation day from work, and come prepared to get your race on. Be part of a Big Show worthy of celebrating 50 years at the historic Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
Come out early to enjoy the off clay attractions including souvenirs, apparel, autograph session, and refreshments. Gates open at 4PM, autograph session between 5-6PM, and racing to begin at 7PM. Autograph session is scheduled to include the stars of the Super DIRTcar Series, top Albany-Saratoga track regulars, and NASCAR’s very own Kenny Wallace.
Also among the racing activities will be a pair of 20-Lap features for the ever-popular Crate Sportsman division. Time hot laps will put drivers into evenly split up features, with the top 12 in each redrawing for starting spots. Separate purses for each of the 20-Lap Crate Sportsman events will reward drivers, along with a Sportsman Big Show win.
