MALTA – It’s not often that a sportsman driver is the center of attention at Albany-Saratoga Speedway. But once a huge rainstorm rolled in from the North, sportsman driver Andrew Buff of Latham emerged as the only winner on Friday night’s card at the Malta track.
And the only reason Buff got a chance to sit in victory lane was because the first sportsman feature was held over from an earlier rainout, and was the first event of the night.
After the other five features were rained out, Albany-Saratoga promoter Lyle DeVore was trying to come up with a solution for running the remainder of the program. Watch the Albany-Saratoga Speedway website for details next week.
Buff and Darryl Nutting spent the early laps of the sportsman feature chasing polesitter Jake Scarborough, before Buff moved by Nutting into second on lap six.
A restart on lap 10 was just what Buff needed, as he rocketed by Scarborough when the green flag came back out, and breezed to an easy victory, his first of the season and second of his career at Albany-Saratoga.
The street stock feature was on the track when the skies opened up on lap 3, washing out the remainder of the card.
