Malta, NY – Kenny Tremont, Jr. picked up career win number 65 at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway Friday night and in the process proved why the four tenths of a mile oval is called the Great Race Place. Tremont started 15th in the Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature event and raced his way through the field to pick up the win. Robbie Speed won the companion 35 lap Super DIRTcar Series event for the DIRTcar Pro Stock division over the largest field of the season.
Other winners during the night were Robert Bublak (Sportsman), Chris Ronca (Limited Sportsman) and Randy Miller (Street Stocks).
Rich Ronca and Brian Gleason led Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified field to the green with Ronca taking the early lead over Gleason, Elmo Reckner, Mike Perrotte and Rob Pitcher. On lap three Alex Bell moved past Pitcher for fifth however a lap later Tyler Dippel moved past him for fifth. By lap five Reckner was all over Ronca and a lap later had taken the Wendy’s Restaurant’s machine to the lead.
Dippel meanwhile was on the move. After starting ninth he was all over Perrotte for fourth by lap seven. He took fourth on lap nine and began to reel in Gleason for third. On lap ten Dippel moved past Gleason for third and set his sights on the distant Ronca. Don Mattison spun his number ten on lap 14 in turn two forcing the races first caution period. During the caution Brett Hearn made his way into the pits, he came back in time for the restart.
On the restart Reckner continued to lead with Ronca following. Neal Stratton slowed in turn four to bring out the caution flag one lap later. Reckner again led the field to the green and held the lead with Ronca, Dippel, Kenny Tremont, Jr. and Perrotte following. Dippel took a look under Ronca on lap 16 and ran side by side with the second generation driver until completing the pass on lap 20.
Tremont meanwhile was getting hooked up on the low side. He took over third from Ronca on lap 21 while Marc Johnson moved past Perrotte for fifth. On lap 23 Johnson took over fourth from Ronca. Alex Bell came to a stop on lap 25, forcing the caution flag to wave. On the restart Dippel and Tremont make it three wide for the lead with Reckner. Dippel took the lead with Tremont second, Peter Britten moving to third then Reckner and Johnson.
Jimmy Cottrell stopped the Cottrell Racing machine in turn two on lap 27, forcing a restart. When racing resumed Tremont took the lead with Reckner moving to second, Britten third, Dippel dropped to fourth and Matt Delorenzo fifth. By lap 30 Tremont had opened up a straightaway lead over new second place runner Britten.
In the end Tremont would pull away for the big win. Britten finished second with Reckner third, Dippel fourth and Delorenzo fifth. A total of 28 Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modifieds entered the program with heat races being won by Gleason, Hearn and Reckner.
Robert Bublak picked up his third career Sportsman feature event win. Jon Miller and Nick Anatriello led the 27 car field to the green with Miller taking the early advantage over Anatriello, Robert Bublak, David Schilling and Stan Lemiesz. By lap five Miller had opened up nearly a straightaway advantage. Chris Johnson moved the Bigg Mann Painting machine to fifth on lap five. Mike Tholin would move past Johnson for fifth on lap seven.
The first caution flag of the event waved on lap seven for Rocky Warner who made contact with the turn two implement tire. On the restart Bublak would take over the lead with Miller falling back to second and Anatriello third. Rookie Schilling and Tim Hartman, Jr. rounded out the top five. Hartman moved past Schilling on lap 12 with defending track champion Jeremy Pitts doing the same a lap later.
Hartman’s charge continued on lap 14 as he moved past Anatriello for third. Two laps later Pitts took third from Hartman. With five laps to go Bublak entered heavy traffic and it almost cost him. On lap 20 Mike Burdo slowed in front of Bublak, collecting Mike Ostrander.
When racing resumed Bublak resumed as the race leader with Pitts moving to second, Miller third, Hartman fourth and Tholin fifth. In the end Bublak would bring the M&J Construction machine home first over Pitts, Tholin, Hartman and McGrew. Heat races for the 27 car field were won by Miller, Schilling and Bublak.
Robbie Speed picked up the Super DIRTcar Series Pro Stock 35 lap event. Dean Charbonneau and Bernie Companion led the field to the green with Charbonneau taking the early lead. On lap one a jingle in turn four involved Nick Stone, Rob Yetman, Kim Duel and a host of others. On the restart Brandon Emigh would take over the top spot with Bernie Companion following in his tracks. Yetman spun in turn three on lap two, causing the races second caution period.
When racing resumed Emigh continued to lead with Speed and Companion following. By lap five Kenny Martin and Chuck Dumblewski had secured positions in the top five. Speed moved to the top side on lap six and pulled alongside of Emigh for the race lead. The duo ran side by side until lap nine when Speed took over the top spot.
As the race moved towards the half way point Speed had pulled away while Emigh was fighting off challenges from Companion. Martin and Dumblewski remained fourth and fifth. Companion got a good run under Emigh on lap 15 and a lap later had taken over second. The Emigh and Companion battle allowed Martin to close in from the fourth position.
Speed had opened a straightaway advantage by the lap 20 mark. The caution flag waved on lap 23 when Byron Wescott and Pascal Payeur became hooked together heading into turn three. After a spin on the restart, racing resumed with Speed remaining as the leader, Companion second and Dumblewski moving to third. The leading duo quickly pulled away from Dumblewski. With five laps to go Speed had about a two car length advantage over Companion and a straightaway on Amsterdam’s Dumblewski.
In the end Speed was too strong and brought home the win. Companion finished second with Dumblewski third, Martin fourth and Stephane Lebrun fifth. A large field of 34 DIRTcar Pro Stocks entered the night’s action. Heat races were won by Yetman, Speed, Dumblewski and Dan Madigan. The consolation event was won by David Bissonnette.
Randy Miller won his eighth Street Stock feature event of the season. Jake Currier jumped out to the early race lead while the field ran two wide behind him. Hunter Sanchez spun exiting turn two on lap three however everyone missed him and he continued on without a caution. By lap four Currier had company up front. Jason Barrett spun in turn two on lap five to bring out the caution flag.
When racing resumed second place runner Damon Anderson took over the top spot. The caution waved for the second time on lap six when David Shippee spun in turn two. On the restart Anderson held the lead over Currier and Miller. Miller took over second on lap seven and quickly closed on Anderson. On lap nine Miller took over the lead.
The caution would fly on lap 11 when Josh Coonradt made contact with second place Anderson, sending the Tilework’s by Damon Anderson machine around in turn four. Coonradt was sent to the rear for his role in the incident. On the restart Miller and Bill Duprey battled for the lead. The duo ran side by side until Jordan Casper and Al Relyea came together on the back stretch on lap 18. The hard hit caused the red flag to wave. On the restart Miller pulled away for the win. Duprey followed the Nanola machine across the line with Sanchez third, Frank Monroe fourth and Coonradt fifth.
Travis Billington took early command with Bob Schmidt following. The caution flag waved on lap three when a trio of cars came together in turn two. Billington led on the restart before giving way to Rob Lanfear just before the caution waved on lap five for a spun Clint Bonner in turn two. Lanfear held the lead on the restart and looked strong on the lead before giving way to Ronca at the end of the race. Ronca picked up the win with Lanfear finishing second, Mike Coffey third, Nick Fretto fourth and Diana Huyck fifth. A total of 25 drivers entered the event.
