Featherfoot Warrior Sportsman Series
Malta, NY – The Albany-Saratoga Speedway will open their gates for the first racing event of the season in just under two months on Friday evening April 18th. While the Sportsman division competitors will be on the card opening night, their attention will be focused on the event that will be held one week later.
On Friday evening April 25th track promoter Lyle DeVore and series organizer Ron Mensing will present the first event in the Featherfoot Warrior Series. The series will consist of five events spread out throughout the season.
“This is something that I have done both at Lebanon Valley and Albany-Saratoga,” Mensing said. “It’s a five race series where there is a little extra on the line for the winner.”
Mensing, who operates one of the tow trucks at the four tenths mile oval on Friday nights, is a past racer himself, which is where the name for the series comes from.
“I chose the name Featherfoot Warrior Series because that was the nickname that Marty Beberwyk gave me years ago when I raced,” Mensing said.
The same series was offered last season for the Pro Stock division under the name the AIM Warrior Series. Veteran Kenny Martin, Jr. was the series champion.
“The series will have a separate point fund,” DeVore said. “Each race will pay more to win.”
The series will have an event once every month. In addition to the April 25th opener, events will be held on May 16th, June 20th, July 25th and August 22nd. The point champion will earn $1,000 with the top five drivers in the final series standings earning a payout.
The complete 2014 track schedule will be released on Saturday morning March 1st. A total of 25 events are planned for this season.
