Driver Butch Jelley Condolences
The staff at Albany-Saratoga Speedway would like to extend their condolences to the family and friends of Hall of Fame driver Clarence “Butch” Jelley, who died on May 1, 2020 at the age of 79.
Jelley was one of the most popular dirt track drivers in the Northeast, becoming a fan favorite when he piloted Martin Riiska’s yellow No. X, which featured the logo of a skunk, who became known as “Lil Stinker,” on the side of the car.
Jelley was a three-time winner in the modified division at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, with all of his victories coming during the 1980 season. He was the Rookie of the Year at Lebanon Valley Speedway in 1960, and won his only track championship at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 1975.
Jelley is still tied for eighth place on Lebanon Valley’s all-time win list with 31 big block victories.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
