Double Modified Features & King of Dirt Series Highlight Friday Night at Albany-Saratoga
The man from down under, Peter Britten will look to make it two and then three in a row when the Albany-Saratoga Speedway roars back into action this Friday night. Britten and the rest of the Upstate GMC DIRTcar Modified division will compete in twin 35 lap feature events, a holiday treat for everyone thanks to Mother Nature. The first event will be the held over event from the June 12th program that was cut short due to rain.
With his win and the uncharacteristic bad luck of defending track champion Brett Hearn, Britten has moved to third place in the race for the track championship. Kenny Tremont, Jr. took over the point lead this past Friday evening. The Sand Lake Slingshot has an eight point lead over Hearn and 22 over Britten. Marc Johnson holds down the fourth position while Ronnie Johnson completes the top five. The unrelated Johnson duo trail Tremont by 55 and 58 points respectfully.
Connor Cleveland was victorious in the 30 lap King of Dirt Sportsman Series event Friday night. Cleveland sits fourth in the point standings. The King of Dirt Sportsman Series event was not a points paying event. Derrick McGrew is the current track point’s leader. The Ballston Spa native has a 24 point advantage over defending track champion Jeremy Pitts. Rocky Warner sits in the third position, ten points behind Pitts while Cleveland is ten points behind Warner. Chris Johnson rounds out the top five, nine points behind Cleveland.
The DIRTcar Pro Stock division will also be highlighted this Friday night as the second leg of the King of Dirt Pro Stock Series comes to town. Byron Wescott holds down the track points lead by four over Kenny Martin. Kim Duell completes the top three; he trails Wescott by 16 points. Other track point leaders include Randy Miller (Street Stocks), Mike Parodi (Greg’s Towing & Repair Single Cam Four Cylinders) and Steve Ryan (Greg’s Towing and Repair Dual Cam Four Cylinders).
In addition to the double Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature events and the King of Dirt Pro Stock Series event, all weekly divisions will be on hand along with the Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinders. There will also be a massive fireworks display. Racing is set to begin at 7 pm.
The Great Race Place comes back to life on Tuesday night, July 7th as Brett Hearn presents the Big Show 7 presented by the Recovery Sports Grill, Ferris and VP Race Fuels. Kenny Wallace will also be on hand and in competition. The Sportsman division will be on the card as well. The gates will open at 4 pm, with an autograph session to take place between 5-6 pm and racing to begin at 7 pm. The autograph session is scheduled to include the stars of the Super DIRTcar Series, the top Albany-Saratoga track regulars and Kenny Wallace.
