Brett Hearn Heads to Albany Saratoga Speedway with ‘Big Show 4’
July 01, 2012: Malta, NY ― The hype has already started at Albany Saratoga Speedway as modified sensation/race organizer Brett Hearn brings his ‘Big Show 4’ presented by Ferris Mowers, a 100-lap Super DIRTcar Moidfied Series event, to the Malta oval on Tuesday, July 10, 2012.
The main event will be the 100-lap Super DIRTcar Modified Series race which is expected to draw some of the best in the business for rights to the $30,000 race purse.
“I’m thinking we may get more cars than we originally expected because I see a lot of guys have a lot of interest in the race,” said Hearn, who is the winningest driver at the 4/10 mile speedway and also carries five wins into the mid-week event himself.
Hearn brought his popular Series race to the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown for the first three runs but decided to switch the event to Albany Saratoga Speedway after Lebanon Valley Speedway owner Howard Commander decided to lease the oval and abandon the asphalt surface ― going back to the popular dirt floor.
“I’m excited because the track lends itself to some really great two and three wide racing and I think from that standpoint it should be one of the best ‘Big Shows’ we’ve had so far, because it is that kind of track,” said Hearn. “I just love the place.”
Hearn thinks the race will be interesting due to the big-block/small block thing. “Most guys know the hot set-up on a Friday night is a small block, but the small block that runs on a Friday night at Malta is a different version then the DIRT legal version, so nobody really knows what a DIRT legal car will do against a big-block,” explained Hearn. “I didn’t want to finish second the other night [to Stewart Freisen on June 22nd] but I think it was pretty cool that Stewey came in and ran a big-block ― that was the first time this year that a big block won there. Bottom line is that small-blocks have to be DIRT legal so they are a little bit more handcuffed. So, I do believe it will pretty much be a big-block race.”
Also on the ‘Big Show’ schedule of events will be a 10 car Dash for Cash which is being sponsored by Morris Ford. The dash will be made up of the top-five Super DIRTcar Modified Series tour racers plus the top-four point leaders at the Albany Saratoga Speedway, and the final dash driver being selected by a vote from the race fans.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Ron Hornaday will also be on hand. The four-time champion will also be part of an autograph session [from 5:00 pm. until 6:00 p.m.] that also includes the DIRTcar drivers.
The popular Pro Stock division will also be part of the night’s action. “I think this has the potential to be the best ‘Big Show’ so far ― I really do,” said Hearn. “Everyone seems like they want to be there.”
Gates open at 4:00 p.m. and racing begins at 7:00 p.m. General admission is priced at $22 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Pit passes are $30 for DIRTcar/Albany Saratoga/Lebanon Valley members and $35 for non-members. For more information about the ‘Big Show 4’ visit: www.thebigshow.com or www.albany-saratogaspeedway.com.
