Albany-Saratoga’s 51st Schedule Has Something For Everyone
Malta, NY – Albany-Saratoga Speedway is just over a month away from kicking off their 2016 racing season. After a record setting 50th Anniversary season in 2015, the Great Race Place will return for 2016 with five divisions in action weekly. Headlined by the DIRTcar Modifieds, the weekly program will also consist of the Sportsman, DIRTcar Pro Stocks, Street Stocks and Limited Sportsman. The Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinder divisions will compete numerous times throughout the season. Racing is set to begin at 7 pm weekly.
The gates will open for the first time in 2016 on Sunday April 17th for an open practice session with another practice session taking place on May 13th.
One week later the season will officially take the green on April 22nd. All divisions will be in action with the DIRTcar Modifieds competing for $3,000 to win. The Featherfoot Sportsman Series makes its return in 2016. The first of five events will take place on April 29th. Other dates for the series are June 3rd (NYSSCA Night), July 8th, August 5th and August 26th.
The month of May kicks off with the Hoosier Mama Mother’s Day Special on May 6th. One week later the DIRTcar Modified division will compete in an Accord Speedway King of the Catskills qualifier. On May 20th the Empire Lightning Sprints make their first of four trips to the four tenths of a mile oval. The remaining three dates are July 1st, August 26th and September 16th. The DIRTcar Pro Stock division will compete in a $600 to win event.
The first full month of the racing season comes to a close on May 27th with the first of four visits by the full sized Sprint Cars. Averdi will present the Patriot Sprint Tour on this night along with all weekly divisions. The winged warriors return to Albany-Saratoga Speedway on July 15th with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints and again on August 12th and September 9th with the CRSA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series.
A total of five events will take place in June at the Route 9 facility. Following NYSSCA Night on June 3rd, the annual Mark Hughes Sportsman Memorial event will take place on June 10th. The event is put on each season to honor a popular racer who passed away too soon. The DMA USAC Midgets will also be on the card. They will make their final appearance on August 5th. The Hoosier Daddy Father’s Day Special anchors the middle of the month on June 17th with the King of Dirt Sportsman Series taking center stage on June 24th. The DIRTcar Modifieds will also compete in a qualifier for the Fulton Speedway’s historic Outlaw 200.
The month ends with the biggest event of the season at the Great Race Place, Brett Hearn’s Big Show 8. The 2016 version will once again feature Kenny Wallace who will compete in the Super DIRTcar Series event. The Sportsman division will round out the card.
Like June, five events mark the calendar in the month of July. A massive fireworks display will join the Empire Lightning Sprints on July 1st with the King of Dirt Pro Stock Series making their only visit on July 8th. Following the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprint visit on July 15th, the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series will come to town on July 22nd as part of Crushing Cancer Night. The final event of the month will take place on July 29th with a Twin 20 lap feature program for the DIRTcar Modified division.
A total of four events fill up the month of August. The Featherfoot Sportsman Series and DMA USAC Midgets take center stage on August 5th while Autograph Night highlights August 12th. On August 19th Kiddie Rides will offer the next generation of race fan a chance to take a ride around the historic speedway with their favorite racer. The month will end on August 26th with a Back to School Raffle.
The final month of the season will once again be a big one at Albany-Saratoga. The first event, September 2nd will be the final night of points for the DIRTcar Modifieds, Sportsman and DIRTcar Pro Stock divisions. The DIRTcar Modifieds will compete in a $3,000 to win event. The month and season will close on September 16th with the Fall Finale for the DIRTcar Modifieds, Empire Lightning Sprints and the weekly divisions.
In between the bookends of September the Albany-Saratoga Speedway will present the Northeast Crate Nationals on September 9th, once again part of the King of Dirt Sportsman Series. The CRSA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series and Meltz Lumber Street Stock event will round out the event.
The Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinder division will compete in 12 events during the 2016 racing season. The first event will be opening day, April 22nd and the final on September 16th.
